MHA Extended Care Services
Data Assessment and VErification Project
If you've been skimming over info on the Data Assessment and VErification project until now, it's a good time to pay attention. The objective of DAVE is to assess the accuracy and reliability of assessment data submitted by nursing homes and home health agencies (while also supporting improvements in the quality of care, CMS' program integrity initiatives to improve payment accuracy, and payment policy development).
The attached DAVE Background document explains what occurred in the developmental phase, and what facilities can expect beginning in January, 2004, when national implementation begins. There will be offsite and onsite reviews, comparing MDS/OASIS results to actual patient/resident evaluations, supporting documentation, etc. While a key objective is education, the review results will be shared w/DPHHS, intermediaries, and others. There is also the potential for payment adjustments based on what they find. Please take an opportunity to learn about this so you will not be caught unaware.
I have also attached the agenda for a conference call that took place December 11; a transcript of the call will be available at: www.cms.hhs.gov/providers/psc/dave within three weeks of the teleconference.
If you have any questions, please call 1-800-561-9812 or email DAVE-project@csc.com.
