PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Patient safety and risk management are top priorities in healthcare. This audio conference will provide participants with information regarding the current issues in Risk Management. Current topics that are of interest include:
- Effect of fatigue on patient safety and liability.
- Joint Commission standard on disruptive behavior
- CMS hospitals regulations on restraints, history and physicals, verbal orders, Medicare discharge appeal rights, and the 2007 CMS interpretive guidelines on informed consent.
- 2008 CMS present on admission and 8 adverse events, disclosure of physician ownership, and medical emergency disclosure.
- 2008 tamper proof prescription requirement for Medicaid patients.
- Joint Commission top problematic and hot buttons and the four 2008 National Patient Safety Goals — blood transfusion issues, off label use of drugs, reviewable sentinel event alerts, vendors in the operating room, 2007 tracked device list, MRI guidelines, use of trigger tools to detect errors, neuromuscular blockers, Diprivan, and hospital bed rails risk issues.

FACULTY
Sue Dill Calloway has been a nurse attorney and medical-legal consultant for more than 25 years. She has presented numerous educational programs for nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals on topics such as patient safety, the Joint Commission, CMS, and HIPAA issues. Currently, Sue is the Director of Hospital Risk Management with the OHIC Insurance Company.
