MHA’s Consumer Guide for Nursing Home Care

There are many excellent sites that provide information when looking for a nursing home for yourself or a loved one.

  • MHA recommends Medicare’s Nursing Home site. This site hosts “Nursing Home Compare”, which provides comparative information about nursing homes in your area. This site also offers a nursing home checklist, information about nursing home inspections, alternatives to nursing homes, paying for care, resident rights, awareness campaigns, and nursing home publications as well as other related sites.

  • MHA also recommends the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services web site for information. This division administers aging services, adult protective services, and the state’s two veterans' homes. It also helps to fund care for elderly and disabled Montanans who are eligible for Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

  • "Consumers' Guide to Quality Aging Services" by AAHSA. This unique guide can be used by older adults and their loved ones who are seeking any type of aging services or care. It will help consumers learn more about each aging services organization, evaluate the quality of its care and services, and compare it to others.

  • Additional sites to use when looking for a nursing home are: Nursing Home Info, The Nursing Guide and HealthGrades (reports from HealthGrades cost a fee).
