John J. Nance, is a pioneering and well-known advocate of using the lessons from the recent revolution in aviation safety to equally revolutionize the patient safety performance of hospitals, doctors, nurses, and all of healthcare. John is a founding board member and is on the executive committee of the National Patient Safety Foundation. A native Texan, John holds a Bachelor’s Degree from SMU and a Juris Doctor from SMU School of Law, and is a licensed attorney. He is also a decorated Air Force pilot veteran of Vietnam and Operations Desert Storm/Desert Shield and a Lt. Colonel in the USAF Reserve, well known for his involvement in Air Force human factors flight safety education, and one of the civilian pioneers of Crew Resource Management (CRM). John has logged countless appearances on national shows such as Larry King Live, PBS Hour with Jim Lehrer, Oprah, NPR, Nova, the Today Show, and many others. His editorials have been published in newspapers nationwide, including the Los Angeles Times and USA Today. He is also the nationally-known author of 19 major books, five non-fiction; plus 13 fiction bestsellers including Final Approach (Crown, 1990) Phoenix Rising (Crown, 1994), Medusa’s Child (Doubleday, 1997), Turbulence (Putnam, 2002), and Saving Cascadia (Simon & Schuster, 2005). Pandora’s Clock and Medusa’s Child both aired as major, successful two-part mini-series on television. He is also the author of a major new book for American Healthcare entitled WHY HOSPITALS SHOULD FLY (SecondRiver Healthcare Press, 2009). The book, which is in a fictional format but highly accurate, has won the prestigious “Book of the Year” award for 2009 by the American College of Healthcare Executives. |
Thomas M. Priselac is chairman of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees. Thomas M. Priselac is president and chief executive officer of the Cedars-Sinai Health System. He has held this position since January 1994. The Cedars-Sinai Health System is among the nation's leading providers of health care services, graduate and continuing medical education services and medical research. Mr. Priselac came to Cedars-Sinai in 1979. Prior to being named president and CEO, Mr. Priselac served as executive vice president since 1988. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Mr. Priselac was on the executive staff of Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Priselac holds an MPH from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Priselac is past chairman of the Association of American Medical Colleges and has served as chairman of the California Healthcare Association and the Healthcare Association of Southern California. Additionally, he served on the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association, VHA, Inc., the National Committee for Quality Healthcare, and the California Healthcare Foundation. Mr. Priselac previously served on the Board of Directors of Blue Cross of California. He is an Adjunct Professor at the UCLA School of Public Health, and lectures extensively at professional meetings and universities on varied aspects of healthcare delivery and leadership. |
Mac McCrary, President of TMC, is an experienced hospital trustee. Over the years he has held a number of board leadership positions (chairman, treasurer and chair of numerous committees and task forces) in hospitals and other healthcare related organizations. He has hands on experience with organizations that were experiencing rapid growth, confronting financial difficulties, going through affiliations, changing CEO’s, reorganizing their governance structure, and facing many other issues. He was appointed by the Governor of NC to the Acute Care Committee of the State Health Coordinating Council (SHCC) in 2001. He served as a board member of the NC Hospital Association (NCHA) from 1996 – 1999 and received NCHA’s Trustee Service Award in 1997. He was awarded NCHA’s highest honor, the Trustee Merit Award, in 2001. He retired from Wachovia Bank as a senior officer following 32 years of service. He was a City President for Wachovia for 23 years and was Business Banking sales manager for western NC when he retired. He now serves as Executive Director of Blue Ridge Healthcare Foundation in Morganton, NC. The McCrary Company (TMC) is a governance consulting organization that offers a complete range of services to a variety of non-profit healthcare organizations. Services include the design and facilitation of board retreats, educational presentations on numerous topics and customized consulting engagements. |
Sharon Molinari, RN, HCS-D, COS-C, a 20-year home health veteran and consultant, is an approved Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) educator. She has earned credentials as Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) and Certificate for OASIS Specialist – Clinical (COS-C). She is a member of the BMSC Home Care Advisory Board and presents for BMSC and other organizations at national and regional training events. She is the author of the Study Guide for HCS-D Certification Examinations and also authors continuing education programs for healthcare professionals |

Trade Show & Dinner Buffet

MHA has been pre-approved for continuing education credits by the Montana Board of Nursing Home Administrators for up to 19 hours.
MHA is authorized to award pre-approved Category II (non-ACHE) continuing education credit for this convention toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Participants wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward Category II credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the ACHE for advancement or recertification.
MHA does not apply for any other continuing education credits. However, an Attendance Verification Form will be provided on-site at the Registration Desk for participants. Participants are responsible for turning in their Attendance Verification Form prior to leaving the convention or by mailing it within seven (7) days to MHA. Blank certificate forms will not be available after the convention. A copy of your form will be held at MHA for 5 years, but will not be submitted to any accrediting organizations.
It is recommended that you keep a copy of your Attendance Verification form for your files. Although MHA does not apply for other continuing education credits, we encourage participants to apply on an individual basis with the appropriate accreditation organization. We cannot guarantee other accreditation; however, those sessions approved by the above organizations usually qualify for other educational credits.Conference Materials
Conference materials will not be pre-mailed. Name badges, Attendance Verification forms, and a complete conference booklet will be available on-site at the MHA Registration Desk.
Handouts
In the interest of saving paper and becoming more environment-friendly, paper handouts for education sessions will NOT be distributed at the conference. Materials will be posted on MHA’s website 10 days prior to the beginning of the conference and 45 days post-convention. Download and print copies of your session materials from the MHA website.

All convention registrants will be charged a mandatory $195 per person fee for members and $295 per person for non-members, whether attending one day or all three days.

• Rebates
In order to keep the registration process as smooth as possible, MHA will offer rebates after the convention to any qualifying facility, based on the tiers listed below. These rebates will allow everyone to register online or by paper registration, will reduce labor and confusion, and will allow MHA to account for all cancellations and on-site registrations before doing a final tally of registrants from your facility.

• PAYMENT OF REGISTRATION FEES
All participants registering for the MHA Convention will pay the $295 per person fee. Fees can be paid by check or credit card.
Any rebates will be calculated and mailed to each facility approximately 10 -12 days after the convention.
Note: Non-member registration fees MUST be paid prior to the start of the conference.
“Early Bird” Registration Deadline
SEPTEMBER 3, 2009
Registrations must be postmarked by or received (via mail, fax or online registration) on or before September 3, 2009. After September 4, higher fees apply.
Cancellation Deadline
SEPTEMBER 17, 2009
Cancellations must be made in writing and received at the MHA office by 5 pm on September 17.
Cancellations must be submitted by fax (406.443.3894) or e-mail to: mharegistration@mtha.org. NOTE: If you registered on-line, you may also cancel your registration on-line. Telephone cancellations will not be accepted.
Refunds
All refunds will be made after the conference, less a $20 per person processing fee. Cancellations received after September 17 will not be refunded.

Confirmation of Registration
MHA will send each individual registrant a confirmation of their convention registration at the e-mail address provided on their registration form. If an e-mail address is not provided, a confirmation will not be sent.
